Red Heroine

Tonight I went to see a Chinese silent film at SIFF that was originally released in 1929. It had live musical accompaniment by Devil Music Ensemble. My friend Jon Gitelson had posted about it on his blog before their show in Chicago, one of his buddies is in the ensemble.

I remember seeing a couple Buster Keaton films with live accompaniment, it adds something to the experience. Makes it more social somehow, the audience seems more connected. The moving image isn't just being witnessed, it is being celebrated.
